I am a single mom raising a son with autism. 21 years ago, I read "Autism: a permanent developmental disability requiring lifelong care for which there is no known cause or cure". In that moment my world shifted. Today more than 3.5 million readers have shared in our journey through this blog as I have detailed our 21-year journey of grief, joy, disappointments, successes, lessons, strategies, personal challenges, frustrations, fears all as they unfolded- day by day.

Night Uninterrupted.>.Happy Birthday
I got a great birthday gift from my girl Evyn. She slept outside my door and kept her brother out of my room all night so I could have a night uninterrupted! A no Nicky night...Yahoo! Poor Evyn, every hour or so I would hear "Nicky Don't Go In There!", "Nicky Go Back to Bed", "Nicky What are you Working For?", "Nicky turn off the TV". Yes, I was awake a lot, but it was a happy awake knowing there was a wonderful girl saying "I love you mom" by guarding my door.
