One of the best days EVER is how I rank Evyn's surprise birthday and graduation party!. What I wanted to do more than anything was to give Evyn a day that was ALL about Evyn. A day where she was the center of the universe, a day she would remember for a lifetime. A day where she didn’t have to share a second of the sunshine with her brother, a day where life was just about happiness, her happiness. A day were everyone showed up JUST for her, a day to share with all the amazing people who make up the village that's brought us safely and successfully to this happy day. And maybe most of all a day where autism was not in the lead role….but just hanging way back like the understudy. We did it! Thanks to everyone :)
I am a single mom raising a son with autism. 21 years ago, I read "Autism: a permanent developmental disability requiring lifelong care for which there is no known cause or cure". In that moment my world shifted. Today more than 3.5 million readers have shared in our journey through this blog as I have detailed our 21-year journey of grief, joy, disappointments, successes, lessons, strategies, personal challenges, frustrations, fears all as they unfolded- day by day.

Hi Donna,
ReplyDeleteI was one of the parents on the behavior training panel in June. Congrats on your daughter's graduation! Hope the start to your summer is a good one.
Hello Ms Donna Ross-Jones,
ReplyDeleteI googled a search on teeth grinding for my autisic 6 year old daughter and fate lead me to your blogg. It's now 3am and I have found 4 hours of no sleep but enlightened by your journey. It's so diificult to form connections with mom's who are not living with autism. After all the posts I have read thus far i wanted to intoduce myself on this one about your Evyn. Congratulations to you and her. I am happy you made a day and an experience all about her. I try to do the same for my other two non autisic kids, but as you have stated it is not easy. Do you have a Post office box or some secure and safe mailing alternative for public contributions. I would like to send a gift for your daughter. I am hopeful that she will be attending college. Please write back. You are an inspiration and this blog has touch me in a way that I can not express. Thank you for your kindness and strengh.
MOM in Portland Oregon.
