Part 3 of 3
We did it! It only took 10 years, but Nicky is no longer going to sleep in my bed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Last night was night number 4 of "No Mommies Bed". I couldn't believe it. I told him to go right into his bed, not Mommies bed, and he did. He did, he really did! No tantrums, no getting stuck in a loop because he was filled with anxiety he couldn't' fall asleep. He just walked right in his room, engaged in his usual before bed chatter and that was it. He got in bed and went to sleep.
This is just what I needed to feel good about pushing him...guilt free...to the next stage.

I am a single mom raising a son with autism. 21 years ago, I read "Autism: a permanent developmental disability requiring lifelong care for which there is no known cause or cure". In that moment my world shifted. Today more than 3.5 million readers have shared in our journey through this blog as I have detailed our 21-year journey of grief, joy, disappointments, successes, lessons, strategies, personal challenges, frustrations, fears all as they unfolded- day by day.
