The Grief That Keeps On Giving: Growing Up
The contrast between doctor offices for grown ups and pediatric offices is a little microcosm of the world, offering an unwelcome peek into our world to come.
This is just one more reminder that Nick is growing up. He looks like a giant in the pediatricians office!
I know there's nothing I can do about it, but I don’t want to leave the cushioned kinder gentler world of pediatric care, with its happy receptionists, patient nurses, toys, stickers, cushy comfy sofas and inviting bright colors, for the "Adult World" of rushed doctors, hard chairs, sedate colors and magazines on illness and aging. I don’t want to leave the world that radiates hope and possibilities for the future, in exchange for a world whose only blueprint for the future of adults with autism is depressing and certainly not hopeful; just maintenance and acceptance for what is, and not dreams of what might be.
